HOLOGISTICS' WP2 Kick-off: Building the Trusted Digital Foundation for Next-Generation Collaborative Logistics
The HOLOGISTICS consortium has officially launched Work Package 2 (WP2), titled “Horizontal Collaborative Governance & Technologies.” Led by key partners Frontier Innovation Centre (FRON), Politecnico di Milano (POLIMI), and CPR System (CPR), this crucial step sets the stage for a more secure, efficient, and interconnected European supply chain ecosystem.
At a Glance: What is WP2?
The Trust Layer of HOLOGISTICS: WP2 provides the foundational framework- combining shared governance rules with advanced digital tools-that enables independent logistics operators to collaborate and exchange data securely without risking privacy or losing control over their proprietary information.
Bridging Collaboration and Security in European Freight
In today’s fast-moving supply chain landscape, horizontal collaboration-where competing or complementary logistics providers share resources, data, and infrastructure-is essential for reducing carbon emissions and eliminating operational inefficiencies. However, reluctance to share sensitive commercial data remains a significant barrier.
WP2 addresses this challenge directly. Over the next 20 months, the work package will develop the trust mechanisms and technical interfaces needed to make seamless, secure collaboration a reality for European freight operators.
Three Key Pillars Driving the Next 20 Months
The development of WP2 is structured around three interconnected, high-impact focus areas:
- SystemicCollaborative Governance Models
Establishing clear, standardized rules and protocols for secure data governance. This model ensures that all stakeholders in the network can exchange critical information with complete transparency and data sovereignty.
- EV Resource Sharing &CapacityOptimization
Creating smart, shared charging infrastructures and capacity-management tools designed specifically for electric freight fleets, accelerating the transition to zero-emission transport networks.
- IoT-EnabledPooledLogistics Interfaces
Deploying advanced Internet of Things (IoT) solutions to provide real-time, tamper-proof tracking and monitoring for sensitive cargo across shared logistics channels.
Designed for Real-World Impact: Integration with Live Pilots
A defining feature of WP2 is its practical, user-centered approach. Rather than developing technical solutions in isolation, the three tasks are co-designed from day one to support and reinforce each other.
Furthermore, all tools and governance frameworks developed under WP2 will be integrated directly into HOLOGISTICS’ real-world pilot tests. This ensures that every innovation is continuously tested, validated, and refined alongside active logistics operators in real commercial conditions before full-scale deployment.
Looking Ahead
With the kick-off meeting successfully concluded, the teams at FRON, POLIMI, and CPR are moving swiftly into the execution phase. The coming months promise significant strides toward turning theoretical governance and cutting-edge IoT technology into actionable, scalable solutions for a greener, smarter European logistics sector.
Stay tuned for further updates on WP2’s progress and pilot integrations as the HOLOGISTICS project continues to shape the future of freight transport.
