The project is structured into eight Work Packages, each designed to address a specific dimension of innovation in logistics and freight decarbonisation. Together, they form a comprehensive roadmap from analysis to real-world implementation.

WP1 - HOLOGISTICS Vision, Opportunities & Requirements

analyses the current challenges, opportunities and state-of-the-art for freight decarbonisation and logistics efficiency in European and Global operations; confirms the HOLOGISTICS Vision for how these are addressed; defines the project requirements for achieving these goals; establishes specifications and success criteria for the project; and ensures alignment with open standards and other relevant initiatives and projects.

WP2 - Horizontal Collaborative Governance & Technologies

addresses the HOLOGISTICS governance models and technology architecture and interfaces to facilitate data sharing, resource sharing and IoT-enabled visibility architecture for the multi-stakeholder logistics chain.

WP3 - Innovative Zero Emission Vehicles/Vessels & Multimodality

focuses on integrating and enhancing innovative solutions for physical interoperability and automation, such as automated electric vessels and interoperable transport units.

WP4 - Synchromodal Systems of Logistics Networks

integrates and enhances digital and algorithmic innovations that schedule and optimise Physical Internet operations, including new capabilities to maximise the benefits of the physical innovations contemplated in WP3.

WP5 – Pilots, Demonstrators & Public Showcase

demonstrates scalable, decarbonised and efficient logistics solutions across multi-node, multi-country industrial networks by deploying and validating integrated HOLOGISTICS physical and digital technologies in real operational environments. WP5 implements and evaluates three large-scale pilots:
1. Multimodal Nodes & Interoperability (KOPER): AI-enabled cross-border freight optimisation based on rail transport and multimodal logistics hubs.
2. Zero Emission Vessel & Cargo Bike (UPS2): sustainable urban and interurban logistics using IoT-enabled zero-emission vessels, smart containers and interoperable cargo bikes.
3. Shared Resources (CAAB): pooled logistics for fresh and temperature-controlled goods based on shared EV fleets and IoT-enabled visibility solutions

WP6 - Physical Internet Operational Efficiency Evaluation

undertakes extended simulations and analysis of large-scale Physical Internet networks, using the results obtained from the pilots and extrapolating them using sophisticated simulation and visualisation software to show how large logistics networks and distribution operations could be decarbonised and made more efficient using the HOLOGISTICS approach.

WP7 - Communication, Dissemination & Exploitation

articulates the communication activities, including the HOLOGISTICS web portal, and addresses exploitation & dissemination strategies for project results.

WP8 - Project Management

carries out project management functions, including administrative, technical and quality control.
