HOLOGISTICS at ITS European Congress 2026: Shaping the Future of Sustainable Freight through Automation
Every day in Europe, millions of goods cross borders, ports, railways and roads. Yet freight transport still operates in a fragmented way: too much waste, too many emissions, and too little connection.
To achieve Europe’s climate goals, logistics systems must become cleaner, smarter and more integrated.
This is the vision behind the HOLOGISTICS project, which has now released its official presentation video: a visual introduction to the project’s mission, technologies and large-scale demonstrators that are helping accelerate the transition toward zero-emission logistics across Europe.
HOLOGISTICS (Holistically Optimised Logistics Operations and Green Innovative Solutions for Transport Cargo Sustainably) is a Horizon Europe project bringing together 25 organisations from 14 countries to develop interoperable and scalable logistics solutions capable of reducing emissions while improving operational efficiency and resilience.
The video presents how HOLOGISTICS combines physical and digital innovation, artificial intelligence and shared standards to optimise transport flows, achieve significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and lower logistics costs across multimodal transport networks.
Across ports and railway systems, the project integrates logistics nodes and interoperable digital systems to create more streamlined and efficient freight flows, supporting modal shift and increasing throughput in ports and terminals.
In cities, HOLOGISTICS is testing zero-emission last-mile delivery solutions through electric vehicles, modular containers and smart cargo bikes, helping increase the adoption of sustainable urban logistics operations.
Within logistics centres, the project explores new collaborative models based on shared energy, data and infrastructure, reducing truck and van kilometres while cutting both operational costs and CO₂ emissions.
These are not theoretical concepts or future scenarios. They are real operational solutions already being implemented and demonstrated across Europe through HOLOGISTICS’ three large-scale pilot projects.
The video will support the project’s communication and dissemination activities throughout Europe and will be presented to the international transport and innovation community during the Transport Research Arena 2026 conference.
Co-funded by the European Union under Grant Agreement No 101202556 and the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI).
