HOLOGISTICS Kicks Off Work Package 5: Driving Real-World Innovation in Freight Logistics

HOLOGISTICS Kicks Off Work Package 5: Driving Real-World Innovation in Freight Logistics

On Friday, September 25th, the HOLOGISTICS consortium gathered virtually from 12:00 to 13:00 CEST to mark the official launch of Work Package 5 (WP5). As the project’s central operational pillar, WP5 focuses on pilots, demonstrators, and public showcases, turning theoretical models into actionable, real-world logistics solutions.

Running from Month 15 through Month 42, WP5 will test and validate HOLOGISTICS’ innovative frameworks across three large-scale demonstrators. The core aim of these pilots is to demonstrate the substantial decarbonisation potential of the project’s methodologies while confirming that the proposed technologies and operational concepts are cost-effective, interoperable, and fully scalable.

A Structured Roadmap to Implementation

The execution of WP5 will progress through a series of structured phases designed to ensure continuous improvement and measurable outcomes:

  1. Demonstration Planning & Methodology: Establishing a robust Demonstration Plan and aligning all consortium partners on evaluation methodologies.

  2. Pilot Phase 1 Execution & Review: Testing initial logistics solutions in operational environments to gather data and extract lessons learned.

  3. Pilot Phase 2 Refinement: Incorporating feedback, technical updates, and external market developments into refined pilot operations.

  4. Early Success Consolidation & Initial Showcase: Preparing early working demonstrators for the project’s first public showcase.

  5. Final Evaluation & Public Demonstration: Validating final outcomes against project targets and hosting the main public showcase demonstrating HOLOGISTICS solutions in active deployment.

Collaborative Driving Force

The kick-off session brought together key representatives across the consortium, including contributions from Ljupka Antunovič (Adria Kombi – ADK), Julian Stephens (MJC2 Limited – MJC), Gabriele Graziotti (CPR System – CPR), Kasper van der El (Damen Research Development & Innovation – DAMEN), and Sahar Nahvi (Centro Agroalimentare di Bologna – CAAB).

With a strong collaborative Foundation established, WP5 is now set to lead the project’s transition toward greener, highly integrated, and more resilient European freight networks.
