HOLOGISTICS at TRA 2026: showcasing the future of smart and sustainable freight transport
The 2026 edition of the Transport Research Arena (TRA 2026), Europe’s flagship conference on transport research and innovation, successfully concluded in Budapest. From 18 to 21 May 2026, under the central theme “Re-Generation in Transport”, the event brought together academia, industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators to discuss the next steps for sustainability, digitalisation, and resilience across all transport modes.
HOLOGISTICS actively participated in this milestone event, successfully presenting its vision for a smarter, greener, and more efficient European logistics ecosystem.
The ALICE Logistics Innovation Village
HOLOGISTICS was hosted within the ALICE Logistics Innovation Village (Hall G, Stand D/14), a dynamic 154 m² open island space dedicated to showcasing cutting-edge solutions from EU-funded research initiatives. Exhibiting alongside fellow European projects like IKIGAI, PILOTS, BRIDGE, and SARIL, HOLOGISTICS found the perfect ecosystem for collaborative innovation.
Located within the Physical Internet neighbourhood, the HOLOGISTICS team welcomed numerous visitors and stakeholders throughout the opening hours of the stand (10:00-17:00 from 18 to 20 May, and 10:00-16:00 on 21 May).
Visitors had the opportunity to explore the project’s core pillars through interactive displays, video presentations on tablets, and dedicated dissemination materials covering:
- Smart and interoperable freight systems.
- Zero-emission logistics solutions.
- AI-powered optimisation and IoT tools.
- Synchromodal logistics and collaborative resource-sharing models.
HOLOGISTICS’ Session at TRA 2026
A major highlight of HOLOGISTICS’ participation was the joint session organised in collaboration with IKIGAI, held on Tuesday, 19 May 2026, from 11:30 to 12:00 at the ALICE Logistics Innovation Theatre.
The session, titled “Making Freight Transport More Efficient, Connected and Sustainable,” was delivered by Gloria Giammei (UNIMORE). The presentation delved into how Physical Internet principles and advanced digitalisation can accelerate the twin green and digital transition in freight transport. Together with the insights from IKIGAI project, the session highlighted innovative approaches to data-driven logistics, AI optimisation, and the creation of highly resilient, zero-emission transport networks.
Looking ahead
TRA 2026 proved to be an invaluable opportunity for HOLOGISTICS to engage with key stakeholders, exchange knowledge with other pioneering European initiatives, and contribute directly to the ongoing dialogue shaping the future of sustainable logistics.
The positive feedback and fruitful exchanges gathered in Budapest will further fuel the project’s mission to drive impactful innovation in European freight transport.
