Project number: 101202556
Project name: Holistically Optimised Logistics Operations and Green Innovative Solutions for Transport Cargo Sustainably
Project acronym: HOLOGISTICS
Call: HORIZON-CL5-2024-D6-01 – Topic: HORIZON-CL5-2024-D6-01-07
Type of action: HORIZON Innovation Actions

Brief Introduction

Hologistics develops and pilots innovative logistics solutions to increase efficiency and flexibility in freight transport while reducing CO₂ emissions. The project combines digital technologies and physical interoperability to create sustainable, resilient, and competitive logistics networks. Leveraging Physical Internet principles, synchromodality, and resource sharing, Hologistics promotes intelligent and collaborative logistics across Europe.

Main objectives of HOLOGISTICS

  • Accelerate the decarbonization of freight transport.
  • Improve operational efficiency and supply chain flexibility.
  • Develop interoperable digital and physical solutions.
  • Create an open and inclusive logistics ecosystem, accessible to SMEs.

Hologistics pilots open-standard technologies and solutions for multimodal logistics networks, integrating digitalization, physical interoperability, and innovative business models. The project demonstrates how the combined use of zero-emission vehicles and vessels, optimization algorithms, AI, IoT, Digital Twins, and automation can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to the Climate Target Plan 2030. The project builds on results from previous European initiatives, creating an integrated and scalable logistics ecosystem.

The solutions developed will scale up collaborative multimodal logistics, enhancing digital and physical interoperability supported by effective governance and business models.
The project strengthens innovations such as:

  • AI and synchromodal optimization algorithms,

  • interoperability through shared standardised containers and units,

  • automation and autonomous systems,

  • IoT and collaborative data-sharing frameworks,

  • Digital Twins and advanced simulation/visualisation tools.

These innovations will reach TRL7 by the end of the project, with some components potentially achieving TRL8.

Mission and Values

  • Technological innovation and physical interoperability
  • Environmental sustainability and emissions reduction
  • Collaboration among universities, research centers, and industry
  • Accessibility and inclusion for all logistics stakeholders
